i love this so much and those shelves in your home, swoon...

i used to read all the time, even when my kids were little I'd carry my book around and read whenever i could. while i still read when i get into bed, otherwise i can't get to sleep, i don't find myself reading every chance through day anymore, I know exactly why too, that damn tiny computer that seems to always be in my hand, bag or pocket, pushing out the book. I think it's made my brain lazy, because now reading seems like effort when I used to use it as a break, gosh that's a sad thing to realise and admit to myself.

thanks for the therapy session

cheers Kate

Thanks Kate! I totally hear you on the small pocket distraction. I have noticed myself reading and then picking up my phone for no particular reason - then getting annoyed with myself. I guess the important thing is that we notice that we are doing it! Put a page-turner back in your bag this weekend - you will get back into the swing of it in no time :-) (and let me know how you go!)

Love this! It is one of the great tragedies of being posted to Vanuatu that there are no bookshops! Of course there is the dreaded kindle, but I miss the real thing!! Ok, ok, we brought loads of books with us....I guess I just miss shopping for books 😂

Dip bag all the way!! I missed libraries when we were on posting - lucky in Pakistan and India bookstores were amazing and books were super cheap (greatly expanding my home library 😂😂) - put them on your list for your next posting!! (Or alternate career - stay on and open a bookstore!!)

Love this article, Alicia! You know I’m an avid reader too. Just wish there were more hours in a day!!!!! I’d forgo almost anything to get a few pages in. 😂 your comment about reading a few pages before meeting friends - that’s me! 😂 remember I was reading that trashy book the night you and I met for a wine? 😂 I love that I’m that ‘loser’ who sits by herself and reads in a public place. Wish there were more of us!! Xx

Definitely not a loser - I always look at people reading solo with envy, what a lovely way to spend time with yourself!! (And definitely takes a certain degree of confidence to do!!) I have seen there is a cafe or bar that is dedicated to silent, solo reading. Need to open one in Canberra!!
